Resi Respati
Resi Respati (born 15th August 1982 in Jakarta, Indonesia) is an Indonesian racing driver, known for competing in the Formula 1 Rejects World Race Series for his own team, Flying Fish Motorsports. Respati drove for two full seasons, 2012 and 2013 and was the first (and so far only) Indonesian to drive in the series.
His first season in the F1RWRS in 2012 was largely an unsuccessful one. Respati struggled with running his own team whilst at the same time being its only driver. As a result he failed to qualify for 10 of the 16 races over the season, though a 6th place at the Australian Grand Prix gave him his first and only points finish of the year.
2013 was by contrast much better. Respati and his team were able to capitalise on the confusion generated by a wide-ranging shake-up of the series' regulations to score far more points than 2012. Employing Chinese driver Yu Hiang-Hao alongside him, Flying Fish performed far better, and whilst Hiang-Hao's performance was poor, Respati came into his own, scoring points on three separate occasions, including a brilliant podium at the British Grand Prix.
Still not satisfied though, Respati announced that he would be retiring at the end of the year to concentrate on running his team in order to achieve better results, and announced that Aguri Suzuki had purchased a controlling 75% stake in Flying Fish. With strong expectations for 2014, ultimately the team's plans collapsed as Respati became embroiled in a political crisis in his native Indonesia. Distracted and with Suzuki declaring his disinterest without Respati by his side, Resi closed the team down, with most of its assets being sold to investors who in turn established the Mecha Grand Prix team in time for the 2014 season. Respati's legacy lives on in the F1RWRS as the Mecha team continues to operate under the Indonesian flag, as Flying Fish did before it. After that he retired completely from motorsport and instead became a member of Indonesian parliament after a successful election.
