Rafael Martins
Rafael Martins (born 1997 in Oporto, Portugal) is a Portuguese racing driver who currently drives for Turismo Algarve in the first season of F5000. He is of no relation to ARWS driver and fellow Portuguese Daniel Martins.
Pre-F5000
After trying, and failing, to enter the 2015 Formula One season, through the young drivers draft, Martins carrer came to a small halt. Only 2 years later, after moving to Australia would he get back into a racing car. This proved a challenge, since Martins was not fit enough to race, which was seen through the pre-season testing for the inagural season of F5000, in which he didn't crack the top 10 in neither of the three tests.
F5000
After going through a very specific regime, Martins got close enough to top shape into the first race of the season. And there, his talent showed once again. He got pole position in Sidney, but in race day, he spun while leading the race, and eventually finished 5th. He made an impression of himself, and was imediatelly considered a title condenter.
