Katie May (b. 1st December 2000) is an Irish racing driver. She won the AutoReject 2.0 series in 2018.

Career

Her rookie year in AutoReject 2.0, and notable series in general, was in 2017 in the European series, driving for Definitely Maybe Racing. Her season started decently, with Spain seeing her 6th in the feature and 2nd in the sprint, followed by her first feature race podium next time out in France. She took pole in Austria, but otherwise failed to score. Italy was her best weekend, 2nd in the feature race and 4th in the sprint. At the halfway point of the season, she was second in the championship, twelve points behind Iakopo Fuamatu, but the second half wouldn't be nearly as good for her; it started with her second feature race 2nd, including her first fastest lap, but from then on she didn't score a single point apart from a feature race 5th in Germany. She ended the season fifth in the standings, with her teammate James Jones having had a much more consistent year to end up third.

The team kept her for 2018. It didn't start off well, no points in the Italian feature race followed by 7th in the sprint, but she had a brilliant run in the next four weekends. She got on the podium in every feature including two wins, one of them from pole, and got decent points in every sprint. The next couple of weekends weren't as good: 4th in the Dutch feature race and a failure to finish in the sprint, followed at Lausitz by a flashback to Monza with 22nd then 7th. Spa wasn't brilliant either, 8th in the feature and 4th in the sprint. Going into the final round at Hungary, she was still leading the championship, ten points ahead of Kyösti Pykälistö. Pykälistö took pole and won the feature race with May third, leaving them two points apart going into the final round. However, Pykälistö didn't score in the sprint, leaving even her drive to an unremarkably decent fifth unnecessary to take the championship.

Having won 2.0, she accordingly moved on to AutoReject 3.5, driving for ICE-3 Racing. She competed in the Middle Eastern Cup, with a pointless first half of the season followed by two 6ths, putting her 11th in the championship.
