Karl Kling
Karl Kling (born 16 September 1910 in Gießen, died 18 March 2003 in Gaienhofen) was a German racing driver. Associated with Mercedes for most of his racing career, he was largely responsible for the success of the marque's return to racing after World War II. He notably won the 1952 Carrera Panamericana, winning the title of German sportsperson of the year for this achievement. However, when Mercedes joined Formula One, he was dissatisfied with the team's lack of preparedness. Instead, he made his F1 début in 1954 for Loyer Racing, then drove for EMW in 1955, never making a single race start. Following this, he retired from racing and became the team manager at Mercedes.
