Erik Courbois is a rally driver, born in Kinshasa, Congo/Zaire in 1960.

Being the heir to colonial gold mine owners originally coming from Antwerp, Belgium. Funding was never short, and Erik had a passion for adventure. Being inspired by his childhood hero Tintin, he travelled the world. His experience in driving terrain vehicles got him interested in trying rally raid, being a regular in the Dakar Rally. Erik tried several racing disciplined during the year, varying from touring cars to single seaters. It is generally agreed that Courbois is the ultimate example of a pay-driver, having a reputation as a mobile chicane. He often paired with co-driver was John Leynen.
