The 2016 Rejects of LFS season was meant to be the 5th season of the Rejects of LFS series. Initially scheduled to be the 3rd running of the new franchise, the season was cancelled following revelations after Nobushige Fukuda's fatal accident at the 2015 Round of Kyoto.

The competition organisers, Finnish NVRT Holdings Group, insisted that the competition would continue, albeit with a totally new and revised rules package, and a move towards more established racing circuits around the world.

The new series, named International Formula Reject Challenge, was announced a week before the non-championship Aston 24 Hours endurance race, which was the last race governed by the Rejects of LFS Commission. The rights to hold that event in the future would later be sold to Finanz-Sichereit Konglomerat.
