Gokor Peynirici (born 19 June, 1952 in Bursa, Turkey) is a Turkish former racing driver and team owner best known for his appearances in the World Touring Car Masters series.

Early Life

Peynirici moved to Koblenz, Germany as a child and grew up in a garage environment - his father found work with the Vergölst auto service chain and taught his son many skills in regards to automobile maintenance. Peynirici used these skills learnt as a boy to set up his own small workshop and used car dealership in nearby Höhr-Grenzhausen. Gaining a reputation for quality service and fair prices, his small garage firm expanded into a second dealership which focused on British Leyland vehicles.

Peynirici began to race in German club saloon car championships once his business began to flourish and even occasionally took part in DTM and DRM race meetings in the mid-1980s.

World Touring Car Masters

Peynirici combined his club racing efforts with an assault on the inaugural WTCM series in 1988, driving a Rover Metro taking advantage of a number of events in central continental Europe. He was only able to take a single win in the immensely competitive Class D, taking the class win in the Endurance race at the Hockenheimring.

Peynirici returned in 1989 with a Volkswagen Golf and was even more competitive - taking two endurance wins at Monza and Birmingham on his way to third place behind eventual champion Helmut Maier and Wolfgang Kudrass.

Unable to find a drive with either the works Volkswagen or Opel teams in 1990, Peynirici opted to make a step up to Class C - taking in a part season with Olaf Manthey Racing in a Mercedes-Benz 190E. Peynirici would take in three rounds, taking the car when regular driver Karl Wendlinger was otherwise occupied with Formula 3000 commitments.
