David Cassidy (born March 18, 1991) is an American racing driver. He is the youngest son of Brendon Cassidy Sr, and brother to Brendon Cassidy Jr and Ashley Cassidy.

Career

Early Career

The youngest son of American racing legend Brendon Cassidy Sr, unlike his siblings, Dave never displayed an interest in racing in IndyCars. Instead, his focus was always on Formula 1. While he struggled in the lower rungs of the feeder series leading to Indycar, when Dave turned 18 he immediately moved to the UK to get himself closer to the F1 spotlight. He continued to struggle through British Formula Renault in 2009, but throughout the season continually improved and by the end earned a seat in Formula Renault 3.5 in 2010.

The step up proved daunting for Dave and a single podium was his only score until the series returned from it's mid-season break. A rigorous testing schedule aided his confidence in the car, and he proceeded to finish on the podium in 4 of the remaining 6 races, surging to a surprising 4th place in the championship by the end of the season. Cassidy remained in the series for 2011, and dueled with Robert Wickens and Jean-Eric Vergne throughout the season, eventually finishing runner-up in the championship to Wickens.

Dave then switched to GP2 for 2012, and despite winning 3 feature races during the season, struggled with setting up the car and finished 6th in the championship. He re-doubled his efforts in 2013 however, and very quickly asserted himself as the championship favourite by winning 7 of the first 10 races. He won another 4 races during the season and claimed the title by over 100 points by the end of the season. This impressive performance was enough for him to be picked up by 2012 Formula 1 Constructors' Champions Sauber for the 2014 season, to partner Sebastien Bourdais.
