Bazza the Bogan
Bazza the Bogan (date and location of birth unknown, real name also unknown) was the mechanic, test and first driver for HURT Racing, who competed in the 1991 Life Grand Prix Series season. He also briefly competed in the REECCS.
Career
Mechanic
Bazza, a pure-bred bogan, was a mechanic in the Inala suburb of Brisbane. When HURT Racing, the local racing team, acquired a Life chassis in 1991, Bazza was hired as team mechanic and test driver, purely because he was the only man available, and was no less qualified than the team's first driver, Joe Bloggs. He would have been selected as driver, but initially he did not want to properly race the car.
As team mechanic, he received most of the blame from Bloggs, who refused to blame his poor showings on himself. With Bloggs' arrogance extending to the whole team, Bloggs left the team, leaving Bazza, as official reserve driver, to be promoted to his first race drive.
1991: Life Grand Prix Series
Bazza's first race in the series will be the Italian Grand Prix at Monza.
2011: REECCS
After a lengthy retirement from racing, Bazza became an armchair supporter, and when he saw an ad in the paper for a 'V8 Supercar' for $500, he jumped on the occasion. It turned out that this "Supercar" was in fact a Trabant, and, suddenly tempted by racing again, Bazza signed up for the REECCS, the only racing series in which this car was legal. He signed up in time for the Monaco Grand Prix.
Qualifying only in 41st position, he made his way to 33rd by the end of the race. In fact, Bazza would turn out to be the highest-ranked Trabant driver in the race, earning three points in the process!
