Raised in a wealthy industrial family, Marzotto was a promising sportscar driver in his native Italy in the early 1950s, notably winning the Dolomites Gold Cup, Giro della Calabria, Coppa Acerbo, Circuito di Senigallia and 12 Hours of Pescara between 1952 and 1953. In 1953, he became a works Ferrari driver, but retired from driving after a series of disappointing results in 1955.
