Frederick Anthony Owen "Tony" Gaze (born 3 February 1920 in Prahran, died 29 July 2013 in Geelong) was an Australian fighter pilot and racing driver. A fighting ace during World War II, he is credited with the original idea for Goodwood Circuit. After the War, he began racing in his native Australia before moving back to Europe in 1951 to further his career. Initially unsuccessful in being accepted to F1 entry lists, he competed in the Indianapolis 500, taking advantage of a reduced field. This allowed him entry in Formula 1, but success did not come. After an unsuccessful guest drive for Scuderia Commesso in his home race in 1952, he reappeared in 1954 for the team, now called Asso di Fiori, replacing the injured Luigi Villoresi. He scored a point in Zandvoort, prompting Alfa Romeo to sign him for 1955. After a rough season, he finished second in Italy.
His contract was renewed, but Alfa Romeo suddenly withdrew from the sport before the 1956 Monaco Grand Prix. Gaze eventually signed for Ferrari, scoring another podium at the 1956 Irish Grand Prix. Throughout the winters, he reached his peak success, winning numerous open-wheel and sportscar races in Australia and New Zealand.
