The 1977 Trofeo Dino Ferrari was a non-championship Formula One race and the inaugural running of the Trofeo Dino Ferrari, held at the Autodromo Dino Ferrari on the 19th June, 1977.
The Ferraris would line up 1-2-3-4 on the grid and, as expected, all four Ferraris held station at the front of the field. Jody Scheckter held on in an exhilarating move around the outside at Tamburello to take the lead from pole-sitter Patrick Depailler, and Gilles Villeneuve and Elio de Angelis swapped places, but with 10 laps to go the final order looked to be set. However, chaos would soon erupt. Patrick Depailler suffered a puncture with 2 laps to go, dropping him down to fifth. Then, de Angelis would spin and Villeneuve encountered mechanical failure on the last lap of the race. Williams' Alan Jones was set to inherit second place, but his car slowed across the line, allowing Depailler to regain second place at the line.
