The Laudaring, formerly known as the Österreichring, is a motor racing venue in Austria that currently hosts the ARWS Austrian Grand Prix.

History

Österreichring (1969-1976)

Opened in 1969 as the Österreichring, the 3.6 mile circuit was constructed in the hills around Speilberg to provide Austria with a brand new facility for international racing events. The circuit hosted the Formula One Austrian Grand Prix for consecutive years during the 1970s.

Laudaring (1977-Present)

In 1976, Austrian Formula One world champion Niki Lauda, was tragically killed during an accident at that year's Soviet Grand Prix. As the reigning world champion at the time, his loss was heartfelt in the Formula One community. In honour of him, the circuit was renamed to the Laudaring in 1977.
