Porfirio Rubirosa Ariza (born 22 January 1909 in San Francisco de Macorís, died 5 July 1965 in Paris, France) was a Dominican diplomat and racing driver. A supporter of the regime of Rafael Trujillo, a noted playboy and rumoured assassin, he was also noted for his sportsmanship. Getting his first taste of Formula 1 in 1951, he decided to take up a career in the sport. Despite a rocky start, he became a dependable driver, his career culminating in a podium scored in the 1954 Belgian Grand Prix. After a stint at Gordini, he signed for Alfa Romeo in 1956, but the team left the sport before the start of the season. He decided to end his F1 career at that point. He was killed in an automobile accident in Paris at the age of 56.
