Pavel Baranov (born 1918 in Estonia) is a racing driver known for his stints with the official U.S.S.R team in 1955 and 1956. In his first race, the highly controversial 1955 Soviet Grand Prix, he managed to get a spot on the grid and finish 15th, without getting lapped. His second race, the 1956 East German Grand Prix, didn't go as well, as a mechanical failure costed him the chance of getting into the final. Aside from his stints in Formula One, he was also a very sucessful motorcycle rider in his home country, even being a member of the VVS MVO at one point, and was one of the two test drivers of the Sokol Typ 650, alongside fellow Soviet driver, Vasiliy Kuznetzov.
