The NewGP2 series is a worldwide motor racing championship for open-wheel governed by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), as the highest support category for the NewF1 Series. The revamped series came about in order to bring more interest to the competition, with the top two teams promoted to top-flight racing each season, being replaced by the bottom two F1 teams. Conversely the bottom two GP2 teams are replaced by the top two GP3 teams.

Other changes brought about by the revamped series included points scoring for placing down to 15th position, one lap per session in qualifying per driver, and changes to tyre compounds.
