Hugo began his career in motorsport by competing in the national Portuguese karting series. He then progressed up the Portuguese motorsport ranks, gaining valuable experience in touring cars and rallying.
Hugo was signed by Peak Driver Talent at the beginning of 2016 and was entered in their Reject Rally Trophy team for the 2016 season. He also competed in a one-off Lupo GTI Championship event at Spa, finishing 36th out of 56 drivers entered.
