Duncan Hamilton
James Duncan Hamilton (born 30 April 1920 in Cork, Ireland, died 13 May 1994 in Sherborne) was a British racing driver. A World War II veteran, Hamilton's post-War racing success was largely in sportscars, although he was better known for his larger-than-life personality and antics. While his greatest success was a legendary victory at the 1953 24 Hours of le Mans, his loyalty to British teams delayed his single-seater success. After a dry spell with the Royal Racing Automobile Company, he returned to Formula 1 with Irish Racing Cars, convinced by the team's atmosphere and his friend Desmond Titterington. Unused to the car, he nonetheless proved a competent hand, and he scored 8 points. When the team folded at the end of the season, he signed for Vanwall.
In 1960 he published an autobiography entitled Touch Wood, which has been met with great praise, Chris Evans calling it "the best book ever." It can be purchased on Amazon.
