David McKay

David McKay (born 14 May 1921 in North Sydney, died 26 December 2004) was an Australian journalist and racing driver. A major figure in Australian motorsport responsible for much of its development throughout the 1950s and 1960s, he first competed in the Australian Grand Prix in 1952, first in the April sportscar race, then in the world championship race for Ecurie Australie, where he failed to qualify. He later finished second in the 1955 12 Hours of Hyères with Tony Gaze, before returning to Australia, where he won the inaugural touring car championship in 1960 and founded the original Holden factory team in 1968. McKay died of cancer at the age of 83.
