Alessandro "Alex" Caffi (born March 18, 1964 in Rovato, Italy) is an Italian former racing driver best known for his time in Formula One.

Formula One

1987: Osella

In 1987 Caffi raced for Osella alongside German driver Frank Jelinski. The Osella-Alfa Romeo package was by far the worst on the grid and failed to score any points - although Caffi was able to beat Jelinski over the course of the year.

1988: AGS

Caffi opted to switch to the small French AGS team in 1988 - which admittedly was a better package than last year's Osella but Caffi was still unable to score any points.

1989-1991: BMS Scuderia Italia

Caffi made another jump in 1989 when he signed for BMS Scuderia Italia. Caffi was able to score twice in this first year with the team - his best being a fifth in the Soviet Grand Prix.

Buoyed by the success of 1989, Caffi signed a two year deal with the team in 1990.
