The 1989 World Superbike Championship season was the second season of the World Superbike Championship, the highest level of FIM-Sanctioned, Highly modified production Motorcycle racing.
The inaugural World Superbike champion, Australian Mick Doohan, left the series to join Honda Racing Corporation's factory team in the 500cc World Championship, meaning a new champion will be crowned.
