The Philippines Grand Prix is a race on the Formula One calendar. It was first held in 2021 as a result of the increased interest in Formula One in the country by virtue of Canadian-born Filipino Roger Ibe's success in the series. The race was originally set to be held as the inaugural Guangdong Grand Prix. The first outing of the event turned into a PR nightmare for both the Grand Prix and Formula One as a whole. After severe humidity and heat on Friday and Saturday, major rain caused flooding in the area. After being forced to move the race one day, the Federation of Automobile Sports of China petitioned to the Formula Committee to start the race on Monday, despite little improvement in the conditions. After a bit more than 20 km behind the safety car, race control decided that the conditions could not possibly improve enough to allow safe racing, resulting in a red flag. As more than four laps were done, the standings at the end of the fourth lap became the final results and championship points were awarded for them. Several FASC key figures resigned or accepted demotions as a consequence of this event.
