2017 Elite Racing League season | |
Previous: 2016 | Next: 2018 |
The 2017 Elite Racing League season was the 2nd Elite Racing League season, competed over 10 races in 10 rounds. It is a non canon season (Like all Elite Racing League Seasons) Drivers and teams throughout the season battled for the Drivers and Manufacturer Championships. It started on the 19th March in the USA at the Circuit of the Americas and ended on the 1 July in Great Britain. It was simulated using Forza Motorsport 7. This season saw the end of the 2016 test season with BMW, Ferrari and Mercedes all withdrawing from the series whilst also considering future offers, Renault left the series to focus on their Formula One programme whilst Chevrolet returned once again to partner Honda and Toyota as Constructors. The defending Drivers Champion was Shane Wray and the Defending Manufacturers Champions were Renault but the title was vacated after their leave. The series continued its corporate relationship with IndyCar meaning, if they so wished, IndyCar drivers would be able to participate. Whilst a few drivers from 2016 remained.
Drivers and Season Calendar
Driver Changes
- Several Drivers changed manufacturer in hope for a performance boost.
- On May 20, Sébastien Bourdais suffered multiple pelvic fractures and a fractured hip after a severe incident during qualifying for the IndyCar Indy 500, forcing him to sit out the remainder of the season. However on August 23 his IndyCar team announced that he had made a full recover and had extended his ERL contract by a season as he said the he wasn't going to miss the opportunity to race in a new series.
Calendar Changes
A new race at Watkins Glen was added to the calendar however, much like the Lincoln race last season, this would be the only season to date to have a race there. Many other races switched dates.
