James Wilmington (born 16th October, 1999 in Vancouver, Canada) is a Canadian racing driver, currently driving for Charouz Racing System in FIA Formula 2.
Career
Wilmington made his debut during the 2017 AutoReject 2.0 North America season, taking one win and two podiums for 11th place overall. Despite being quite inexperienced, Wilmington made the jump to AutoReject 3.5. The Canadian made a solid effort during the Africa Cup with a best finish of fourth place, but the main season brought disappointment as he scored just one point by the virtue of a fastest lap.
Wilmington returned to AutoReject 2.0 for 2019, taking 10th place in the standings with a win and two podiums. The youngster also had short stints in F3 Americas and the GT Super Series that same year.
He moved to European Formula 3 after signing with Czech outfit Charouz Racing System in 2020, with his aim to move to Formula 2 or back to AutoReject 3.5 in the near future. As Charouz had just moved to this championship, it was uncertain how the team would perform; however, Wilmington's maiden season in the category turned out to be an unexpectedly successful one as he and teammate Giuliano Alesi used the best out of their machinery and often contended for wins and podiums. The calls for a move to Formula 2 heightened after team principal Antonín Charouz announced his plans to expand the team's operations towards that championship. Wilmington finished the season second overall (behind Prema's Riley Griffith) with Alesi in third.
