Formula One
Gugelmin made his F1 debut in 1989, driving for the Leyton House March Racing Team alongside Robert Kagan. Gugelmin's performances in the early stages of the year were enough to drag March out of pre-qualifying, which in turn led to a fifth place finish in the Portuguese Grand Prix. Despite this strong showing, Gugelmin was not able to retain his place at March and was out of a drive in 1990. During that season, Gugelmin had to resort for part-time drives with Larrousse and Tyrrell with a best finish of 8th in three races.
