Ensign was a British Formula One constructor that raced from the early 1970s to the early 1980s.

In 1976, Ensign signed Gunnar Nilsson to a full-time drive with the second seat being on rotation for any suitable drivers with budget. The business model worked well as the team could focus their attention on Nilsson whilst ensuring the budget was topped up by as many as eight different drivers throughout the year. The decent chassis also meant this was one of the best drives "for sale" on the grid. Nilsson was a semi-regular point scorer in 1976, picking up occasional points when attrition took hold. However, Nilsson scored an astounding result in the Canadian Grand Prix, taking a career best second place overall in absolutely torrid conditions. This would be his and Ensign's first podium in Formula One. Ensign finished the year sixth in the Constructor's standings.

1977 saw some stability with Lotus exile and fellow Swede Ronnie Peterson joining Nilsson. The pairing were unremarkable in all honesty, but still managed several points scores to help the team into seventh place.

Nilsson departed for newly-formed Arrows in 1978 - so the team signed highly-rated American Bobby Rahal to fill his seat.
