Piercarlo Ghinzani (born 16th January, 1952 in Riviera d'Adda, Lombardy, Italy) is an Italian former racing driver best known for his appearances in Formula One.

Formula One

Ghinzani made his Formula One debut in 1977, racing alongside Roberto Marazzi and Maurizio Flammini at Scuderia Everest. Ghinzani only made the grid on two occasions in 1977, his best finish being an impressive eighth place in the British Grand Prix.

The following year, Ghinzani was joined by former Renault driver Riccardo Patrese at Everest, as well as a self-built chassis for the first time. After initially looking like another disappointing season with the Minardi crashing out in pre-qualifying at the season-opening Argentine Grand Prix, Ghinzani bucked the trend by taking an unexpected sixth place in South Africa when most of the mid-field teams had issues. This point was enough to haul Everest out of pre-qualifying for the rest of the year.

World Touring Car Masters

In 1988, Ghinzani raced in the inaugural World Touring Car Masters championship for Alfa Corse. Unfortunately for the Italian, he only qualified on one occasion.
