Petrus Handoyo enters the Rejects-1 World Championship in 1994, the arguably continuation of the demised Life Grand Prix Series. Caraxl Racing elected to run EuroBrun ER188B which proved quite disappointing. Handoyo finished only 5 races in the season, 1 DNQ at Australia, with 1 podium (3rd) at Canada. Handoyo ashamed himself when he accidentaly stalled his car just seconds before his home race got underway, thus earning 37th (last) driver on the race report. Handoyo finished the season 25th in the standings with 27 points.

Entering 1995, Caraxl Racing decided to switch to Life L190, a car which they already got familiar with despite some changes by Rejects-1 comission. Handoyo announced he will miss round 2 and 3 of 1995 due to university conflicts. The year started surprisingly as Handoyo managed to maximized the low-drag car of Life, taking pole position at Daytona Speedway Road Course, USA. However, on the last lap a heartbreak, he was overtaken by Shigeru Hashimoto because of tires degrading due to him observed driving on the high lane of the banking. He finished 2nd having led all but final lap. Returning at round 4, performance free-falls, he scored no points in the next 7 races, finishing twice outside points. He decided to took a break from racing to continue his study and some steam-releasing vacation. He returned at Sentul and finished 7th. Handoyo finished 28th in the standings with 20 points.

Entering 1996, Caraxl lost motivation for Rejects-1, so did Handoyo. The team got a little hope with 10th on the 1st race. But heartbreak engine brokedown after pole in Argentina left Handoyo disappointed by the unreliableness of Rejects-1 engine. He with Caraxl left the series to focus on Handoyo's Indianapolis 500 bid. During the Indianapolis 500, on lap 188, Handoyo was running in a solid 8th place before the leaders came. As the leaders battle around him, the turbulent air shocked Handoyo and he spun coming out from turn 4 and continues to pit without harm, no yellow was called but in bizarre way Handoyo broke the engine because of shifting down to 1st gear too quickly. After that he and Caraxl returns to Rejects-1, stating as "just for fun". The last two races proved to be a good thing. So Handoyo again finished the season with 20 points but 26th in the standings.

He once asked why his helmet looks like that, his answer was: "My country is a very diversed country in terms of everything. Batik represents one of the most important heritage, while the colours represents the unity of our culture and people."
