Judd is a British engineering company based in Rugby, Warwickshire best known for their racing engines which have been used in Formula One, Sportscars and other series.

History

Judd first came into Formula One in 1988 when they began supplying the Ligier team.

The following season, Judd became the supplier of choice for more teams than any other manufacturer with AGS, BMS Scuderia Italia, Coloni, March, Minardi and Osella joining Ligier as customers. Minardi managed to score Judd's first podium when Pierluigi Martini took third in the season opening Brazlian Grand Prix.

1990 saw several teams abandon Judd, with only AGS, BMS Scuderia Italia and Osella sticking with them for a second season.

After disappearing from F1 in the early 1990s, Judd returned in 2016 to supply Caterham, DGNgineering and Sauber. Sauber took Judd's first win in the opening race of the season in Bahrain whilst Caterham also scored several wins on their way to second in the World Constructor's Championship.

Sebastian Vettel and Caterham gave Judd their first Driver's and Constructor's championships in 2017 with both Vettel and Daniil Kvyat taking several wins throughout the year.

DGNgineering left Judd ahead of the 2018 season but Haas opted to switch to the British unit in their place. Vettel and Caterham continued their fine run of form by taking both titles once more, whilst Sauber and Haas both managed multiple wins.

New team Theodore joined the Judd fold in 2019 and almost immediately began winning with the unit whilst Sauber took a significant step forward in performance - with Pastor Maldonado and Dean Stoneman delivering Judd's third Constructor win in as many years and Maldonado bringing home the Driver's title as well. Midway through the season, the collapse of Holden as a supplier saw Calinetic also use Judd engines for the remaining races and into the next year.

Haas departed F1 ahead of 2020 but Dawson GP took their place as a Judd team.
