Carroll Hall Shelby (born 11 January 1923 in Leesburg, died 10 May 2012 in Dallas) was an American automotive designer, racing driver, and entrepreneur. A promising sportscar driver after World War II, his career was prematurely ended in an accident at the 1954 Syracuse Grand Prix which left him paraplegic, with complications arising from a congenital heart condition. He later turned to engineering, creating the famed Shelby Cobra.
