Driver and Team Changes

This year marked the first major regulation change in the universe with several teams acquiring new sponsors and new identities for this "New era".

Williams remained with Mercedes as their deal doesn't end until 2025.

Racing Point was bought out by Toyota however the Japanese car makers didn't bring in their own engines for this season so they made a deal with fellow Japanese car makers Honda, also the team raced with a Canadian license due to Laurence Stroll (Lance Stroll's dad) still owning the team.

Toro Rosso left the Red Bull programme and became Scuderia Alpha Tauri this becoming fully independent.

Virgin returned to the series as a title sponsor for McLaren who also changed back to Mercedes engines following Richard Branson buying shares in the team.

Following a disappointing year with Honda in 2022, Haas changed engine suppliers and signed with Renault.

Aston Martin became an official constructor this season for Red Bull.

Several driver transfers happened this season.

New Regulations

- Every team was given a "budget" when making their cars for this season as the FIA said "It would encourage closer racing" the FIA also introduced a harder version of the current material used to make F1 cars more resistant to damage, they also made ERS (Energy Recovery System) automatic to allow more attention to be put on driver skill.

- A new penalty system was decided following the FIA's decision that time penalties are somewhat redundant in this new era of F1 as a car could easily escape a time penalty if they were fast enough meaning no consequences were given, to make up for this they installed a "grid drop" system which would see a driver drop a certain amount of places from where they finished depending on how serious the incident would be. The grid drop system would also be used for illegal blocking.

- The pit for repairs flag (a black flag with an orange disc) returned as part of the new regulations, when this is waved it means that a driver should pit for repairs immediately as race control have said said driver wouldn't be able to continue with the damage of the car, if this was a crash/incident with another car then the other car (if they have a red front wing on the Race control monitors) needs to also pit as a consequence for causing the collision.

- For the first time since the mid 2000s the possibility of being excluded from the championship returned following a debate on the subject to make competition between drivers fair, the Jerez race of 1997 was brought up as topic of the debate and from there the FIA decided should anything like that happen (if a driver takes someone out on purpose) the driver that caused the crash would be excluded from the Drivers Championship however the team/constructor that the driver raced for would still get the points.

- For the first time ever in F1 the pit lane would be closed during a full safety car as some teams saw the safety car pitstops as "a free pit stop" with that being said the FIA introduced a rule where you can only put under a safety car on the lap it goes into the pits itself, if someone were to pit under a full safety car for any reason then a penalty would be given out, it would be a time penalty and would also be the time of the pit lane (eg: 23 seconds) The Virtual Safety Car/Full course yellow periods were not included in these rules and you can still pit under a VSC/Full course yellow.

Calendar and Results

During the regulations talk in Winter 2022, it was announced that the Mexican Grand Prix would remain on the calendar, though it would be renamed to the "Mexico City Grand Prix."

The points system was remade for the first time since 2010. The driver who got Fastest Lap was now given 2 points however the bonus points still only applied for the Top 10. Pole position was given 1 point due to the competitiveness of the cars.

Constructors Championship

The individual driver results were removed from the constructors title table this season as due to the competitive nature of the field the drivers championship would seemingly be more reflective of a drivers results.
