Formula 2 is a motor racing championship for Formula 2 cars that is sanctioned by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA). It is an open-wheel racing category that serves as the second tier of formula racing in the FIA Global Pathway. The category is scheduled to be run in support of the 2020 FIA Formula 1 World Championship.

The Belgian Grand Prix was cancelled due to the passing of Antoine Hubert the previous year, so the race was cancelled out of respect.

Drivers in this championship come from F1, IndyCar and GT Racing whilst some have been in F2 for a considerable amount of time and are now considered "F2 veterans."

A new race weekend in Canada was added as the series entered its first fully independent season, technically still remaining a support series for F1 by hosting races/events at F1 tracks. An Endurance race was held at Marina Bay in Singapore due to the length of the track, the race is double the amount of laps meaning more strategy options and more track time, the event in Singapore is the only stand alone event of the season and has its points system, it is said to become the finale race of every F2 season from 2021 for at least 5 years.

The 2020 FIA Formula 2 Championship is the third season of the FIA Formula 2 Championship (since its independence from F1 despite keeping its support series title.) Formula 2 is a motor racing championship for Formula 2 cars that is sanctioned by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA). It is an open-wheel racing category that serves as the second tier of formula racing in the FIA Global Pathway. The category is scheduled to be run in support of the 2020 FIA Formula 1 World Championship.

The following teams and drivers are under contract to compete in the 2020 FIA Formula 2 Championship. Race fans and critics are calling this the most unpredictable F2 season due to the variety of experience on the grid with many not having much, if any, Formula racing experience. Drivers in this championship come from F1, IndyCar and GT Racing whilst some have been in F2 for a considerable amount of time and are now considered "F2 veterans."

The addition of E-Spike and Andretti Autosport into the championship also remain a massive unknown.

The Belgian weekend in the championship was cancelled due to the death of Antoine Hubert a year earlier out of respect.
