The 2016 NASCAR World Series was the second season of the of NASCAR World Series, NASCAR's second top-level stock car series alongside the Cup Series. The defending World Series Champions from 2015 were Marcos Ambrose for Drivers and Chip Ganassi Racing for teams, while Regan Smith would have the chance to defend his NASCAR Championship of the World.

Teams and Drivers

The field for races in 2016 continued to be limited to 32 cars, with NASCAR deciding before the race weekend which applications for part-time entries would be accepted. Ultimately this would mean two part-time teams would be chosen per weekend, as there were 30 full-time teams entered for the season.

As in 2015, the NASCAR Championship of the World was held two weeks after the conclusion of the World Series season, and one week after the conclusion of the Cup Series season. It retained its format as an IROC-style 100-lap shootout for the top sixteen drivers across NASCAR's major series; all drivers would be furnished with identically prepared Cup cars, with defending champion Regan Smith guaranteed a place on the grid.
