The 2001 Brooklands Racing League was the first season of the of BRL championship, which aimed to bring a top-level open wheel racing series to British shores. For the first time, a non-American open-wheel series would combine oval, road and street circuits across the season; the champion would be crowned at Brands Hatch in September. The championship's flagship event would be the Great British 500 - an oval race at the newly-built Rockingham Motor Speedway that would run for 500 kilometres.
Teams and Drivers
- All teams were required to use the Lola B2K/00 chassis originally designed for the American CART series.
- Most teams used the Ford Cosworth XF, while the Judd-Zytek KV+ was also available. Jaguar Nova and Project Four rebadged these engines as "Jaguar" and "McLaren" respectively.
