The 1964 Elite Racing League season was the 5th season of the FIA's Formula One motor racing support series (the series would remain a support series until 1997.) The Drivers Championship was won by Jo Bonnier who switched to Ferrari from Lotus during the winter break this would prove out to be a successful move to Ferrari as the team won the Constructors Championship for the second time, they also won the Formula 1 Constructors Championship becoming the third constructor to win both titles and the first non British constructor to win both ERL and F1 constructor titles. Both championships were decided in the final race in Argentina at the Buenos Aries circuit.
Season Review
The South African Grand Prix debuted at Kyalami this year following Formula 1's decision to give the Elite Racing League its own stand alone event away from FIA supported races (eg: The races on the F1 calendar as well as the 12 Hours of Sebring.) with the FIA saying that if the Kyalami race is profitable from fan attendance and racing quality then it will become an permanent ERL only race.
Teams and Drivers
Maserati and Porsche left the championship, Maserati left due to poor results whilst Porsche left due to a lack of funding causing the team to collapse.
