Koyomi Setou
Koyomi Setou (born 4 June 1994 in Utsunomiya, Japan) is a Japanese racing driver best known for winning the GT-R Independent World Championship in 2017 alongside Marlin Hortin.
Early Career
Having started karting at the age of 8, Setou enjoyed a mostly anonymous career in the Japanese karting scene. She eventually debuted in open-wheelers in the 2010 Formula Challenge Japan season. After a poor first season, Setou improved dramatically in her second season, taking the championship in dominating fashion. Despite her success, no manufacturer proved willing to fund her jump to Formula 3, she spend the 2012 season on the sidelines before finding enough sponsorship to fund two races with KCMG in Japanese Formula 3 in 2013. She managed to acquire a full-time ride for 2014 and impressed by beating the otherwise unstoppable Nobuharu Matsushita in the second race of the first Motegi weekend on her way to sixth in the championship. Setou's hometrack of Motegi would also be the site of her four wins in the 2015 season, those wins proving enough to beat Nirei Fukuzumi to fourth in the championship. Best In The World signed Setou to their driver program after the end of the 2015 season.
Private life
Setou is the daughter of the owner of a Volvo dealership in Utsunomiya. During her first season in international motorsport, she completed her bachelor's degree in psychology at the Sakushin Gakuin University and has since publicized a small number of replication studies. In early 2020, Setou was admitted to the Triple Nine Society and has been sponsored by the organisation ever since.
