Eric Brandon
Eric Brandon (born 18 July 1920 in East Ham, died 8 August 1982 in Gosport) was a British racing driver and businessman. Involved in the founding of Cooper Car Company, he was an early competitor in British Formula Three. He first caught the attention of the F1 establishment in 1950 when Maserati offered him a drive for the Belgian Grand Prix, only for his licence to be denied. After winning the British F3 title in 1951, he was hired by Scuderia Maremmana for 1952. After an impressive début in Monaco, he scored a surprising podium in Donington, the best ever result for the team. Unfortunately, he was never able to continue on this promise, and after the team's buy-out by Mercedes proved to be unsuccessful, he ended his F1 career and turned to hydroplane racing.
