The 2005 Formula 1 season is the sport's 56th year, and the first one run as part of this series. Before the season there was a great deal of turmoil, including Michael Schumacher's departure from Ferrari after five consecutive World Titles as he sought a new challenge, Ferrari's complete change of driver line-up as Raikkonen and Villeneuve replaced Schumacher and Barrichello, and Williams' double-rookie pairing of Robert Kubica (aged 20) and Sebastian Vettel (aged 17, F1's youngest ever driver). Some teams also changed ownership, with Red Bull taking full ownership of what had been the Sauber team, and Ford selling its Jaguar team to the Chinese government. This season also saw some notable absentees: none of Jenson Button, Rubens Barrichello or Juan Pablo Montoya managed to find F1 drives, and Honda found itself without a single engine customer.
