2015 F1RWRS Mediterranean Grand Prix
The 2015 Mediterranean Grand Prix was held at Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari, in Imola, Italy. It runs under the San Marino flag due to it's proximinity to the country San Marino. The race was won by Mark Dagnall after leader Rhys Davies retired from the race with two laps remaining in the race.
Pre-Qualifying
Aeroracing's The Stig and Pippa Mann topped the charts with a 1-2, automatically bringing them to the qualifying session. The Stig set a 1:25.649. Kay Lon placed third in the Prospec. Damon Cannon and David Koczo from Autodynamics and Alitalia respectively were fourth and fifth but their teammates (Fleet and Groves) set poor times (to place 15th and 16th respectively and were two seconds off their teammates). Boxtel was the third team to move on as Spencer and Battani placed 7th and 8th respectively. Sebastian Groves then resigned from his seat due to pressure from ArrowTech-Acuri Autosport to return to his testing duties, and the fact that he was not as fast as his less experienced teammate. (As Cannon was returning from retirement.)
Qualifying
Rhys Davies took pole position for the first time this season, barely beating out teammate Phillippe Nicolas. Nicolas Steele was a surprising third in the Kamaha. Martin McFry was an even more surprising fourth in the Foxdale. Mark Dagnall was 8th, Ron Mignolet was a distant 14th, and Andrea Battani was 11th in the Boxtel. Poppy Whitechapel and Darren Older Jr did not qualify. Saeed Al Faisal barely escaped the DNQ zone himself, placing 26th and last on the grid. (Bosevic was no better as he was 23rd.) Nathan Scott in the Tropico miraculously qualified in 24th.
Race
Nicolas got a brilliant start from second and led into the first corner. Before long, Mark Dagnall was already behind the MRTs and was looking to pass them. Then Rhys Davies and Dagnall were battling on the track, swapping positions constantly. Then Dagnall had a brake problem and he had to pit, coincidentally aligning with his one and only pitstop. This put Rhys Davies in the lead and he led until his car expired with a technical problem with 2 laps to go. Also, Fredo Mestolio was racing very well at the time, going up in the points before retiring (coincidentally at the same time as Rhys Davies). Aurelien Moll, despite having a terrible race, soon took advantage and rose to fifth, unlike his teammate, Thomas De Bock, who was nowhere all weekend. The Stig comfortably took third for the Aeroracing team, after blowing a 2nd place in Adelaide.
In the end, Dagnall won ahead of Nicolas, The Stig, Rosco Vantini, Moll, and McFry.
