Hans-Joachim Stuck (born 1st January 1951 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, West Germany) is a German racing driver known for his appearances in Formula One.
His father, Hans also raced in Formula One.
Formula One
1976: Penske
In 1976, Stuck joined the ambitious Team Penske on the launch of their new chassis, the PC4. Coupled with a woeful Alfa Romeo power unit, the car was a complete disaster. Being low on power and generally unreliable, Stuck failed to qualify for eleven races in 1976 and only finishing on three occasions.
Stuck caused controversy at the 1976 Italian Grand Prix for deliberately swerving in front of race leader and eventual champion Jody Scheckter. Stuck left the team at the end of the season.
1977: Kojima
A lack of interest in Stuck's services in Formula One led him to set sail for Japan's Formula 2000 championship with Kojima Engineering.
This led to him entering the 1977 Japanese Grand Prix alongside Masahiro Hasemi where he would retire from the race.
Japanese Formula Two
1977-: Kojima
Left without a seat in Formula One, Stuck journeyed to Japan to compete in Formula 2 for the Kojima squad. He had a successful debut season, winning two races and finishing third overall in the championship. With no Formula One offers forthcoming, Stuck resigned for Kojima for a second season in Japan.
