Townsend-Bell Racing started racing in the Atlantic Championship, winning the series in 1986 with Scott Goodyear and 1989 with Claude Bourbonnais. The team moved to Indy Lights in 1992, winning the title with Julian Westwood.
Life Grand Prix Series
The team then made their debut on the world stage in the Life Grand Prix Series, signing Italians Jose Braggia and former F1 driver Arsenio Matarazzo. The year saw early success with Braggia scoring 4 points in the first 3 races until an injury at the team's home race wrote him out of the title battle.
