José Álvarez de Vivar (born 12th June 1974 in Almería, Spain) is a Spanish racer who currently tests for Williams in the F1RGP2C. He is the father of Dofasco driver Diego Álvarez Torrente, and Nebula driver Jorge Álvarez Torrente.
Early Career
Álvarez raced in the Spanish Formula Renault in 1996, earning the backing of Telefónica after some impressive drives in the series. He then joined Pacific Racing in International F3000, before the team folded. However, he further impressed by taking the Pacific into points on a regular basis, despite the financial handicaps of the team.
F1RGP2C Career
Armed with some Telefónica sponsorship, Álvarez was in demand for a seat in the F1RGP2C. Favouring a test seat for experience, he joined Williams.
Williams & Stewart (1998-)
