This page refers to the 1991 draft held in the Formula Draft series
In 1991 the first-ever Formula One Draft was held in Paris. 18 Teams drafted drivers, engines supplies, tyre supplies and chassis manufacturers over four rounds. The first pick was decided by a coin toss between the two new teams, Modena and Jordan, on draft day. The coin toss was won by Modena. The order for the other 16 teams was decided by reversed Constructors' Championship order from 1990. Manufacturer and engine works teams, had to give up their second round picks in order to validate their status.
Trades
The following trades happened before the draft, or in between draft rounds.
- Williams gets Brabhams' 91 3rd round pick for their 4th round pick plus 1.5m$
- Scuderia Italia's 1991 first-round pick is traded to Brabham in exchange for Brabham's 1991 first-round pick, Brabham's 1991 fourth-round pick and Brabham's 1992 second-round pick
- Brabham gets Modena's 91 4th round pick, for Brabham's 93 3rd round pick plus 0,5m$ immediate payment
