Castroneves found some time in his IndyCar schedule to make his Formula One debut with the [[Squadra Toro Rosso]] team in [[2009 Alternate Formula One season|2009]]. Castroneves took part in the [[Brazilian Grand Prix|Brazilian]] and [[Uruguayan Grand Prix|Uruguayan]] Grands Prix.

Castroneves returned on a part time basis in [[2010_Alternate_Formula_One_season|2010]] with the [[Mercedes|Petronas Mercedes Team Europe]] outfit when the regular drivers were unavailable. Once again he took part in the Brazilian and Uruguayan races - even taking pole for the first of the races in Uruguay. Castroneves' best results were a pair of seventh places.

Castroneves raced in IndyCar from 2001 up until the US Open Wheeler split in 2017.
