Antonio Fazio Leads the Way as Bahrain Test Concludes

Antonio Fazio took his Solvalou Lamborghini to the top of the timesheets on the second, and final, day of the GT Super Series Pre-Season Test at the Bahrain International Circuit.

After putting up the third fastest time in the morning session, two and a half tenths off of Markus Jacobson, the Italian would improve by nearly a second come the afternoon to put in the fastest time of the second day. He would join Rhys Davies in being the second driver to break into the one minute, fifty one second barrier, but was a tenth and a half behind the top time set by the Factory Ford driver.

After everyone had done their first runs in the afternoon session, Fazio was third in the times with Jacobson continuing to top the times in his MacMillan Ford. The first to improve their times on their second runs of the afternoon session would be Dave Simpson, making his debut at Prodrive AMR, and then Andrej Kremnicky in the Ravenwest Aston Martin would go to the top of the timesheet. Fazio would fail to improve on his first laps during his second run after catching the Team LKM Lamborghini of Carlton Cho on an out lap. After doing a cool down lap, the Italian would use the draft made by the LKM Lamborghni to good use and go to the top of the times.

Jacobson would fail to improve later in the session, seeing him end up fourth in the overall times on Monday after setting the pace in the morning session. His fastest lap of the day nearly half a second behind what Fazio, with Fazio’s teammate and World Champion Morgan Le Fay six tenths off the place with the fifth best time. Behind Le Fay, but nearly a second off of Monday’s top time, would be Canadian Anton Robishaud making his debut at Carson Speedworks. The former Factory Pagani driver proved he could adapt quickly to new equipment,  his Afternoon Session time putting him just ahead of the best time of his teammate Jacques Malenfant.

Last year’s Independent’s Trophy runner-up David Simmons would break up the lockout of a all Factory Car top 10, by putting his Oliver Motorsport Lamborghini to eighth on the timesheets Monday afternoon. While he was two tenths off of the best Independent’s Trophy time from Sunday, set by Phil McCracken, he was three tenths clear at the front of the class. In second within the Independents was Kjeld Axelsen, continuing the good test the Lumenition RMR team was having with their Maserati.

James Douglas would put his Tom Douglas Racing Saleen to third fastest of the Independent’s Trophy cars before a mechanical issue forced him to stop on track before the session was a quarter completed. They were not the only Saleen team to have issues on Monday, as the debuting Minster Racing lost time during the Morning session due to a water leak. The team were able to repair it over the lunch break to get the full running during the Afternoon.
